Boarding: please read
There is a step over the water between the dock and the boat. Its height changes with the tide. Please step carefully, especially when surfaces are wet.
The railing can help with balance, but it is not designed to support your full body weight. The stairs aboard are narrow and require some agility.
The Lost Key is not suitable for young children or guests with mobility limitations.
No hurry. No heroics. You’re on island time.
What to expect
- Think glamping, not luxury hotel
- Boat life is not for everyone. Think of it as a unique glamping experience, not a luxury hotel stay. With that mindset, you won’t be disappointed.
- Boarding takes some agility
- There are stairs to get aboard and stairs inside the boat. The step from the marina dock to the boat is long, especially at low tide. Use the handrails with care. If you have concerns about mobility, please get in touch.
- Hot water is very limited
- Showering aboard is not glamorous. We strongly recommend the marina shower houses, a short walk from the boat. We give you the key code for them.
- Sea bugs
- Key West has sea roaches that look like cockroaches. You will often see them on seawalls and decks, and now and then one finds its way aboard. We treat against them, but they can’t be avoided completely.
- The smell of the sea
- If you are sensitive to the smell of sea water, a night on a boat may not be for you.

Boat basics
Hot water
Hot water aboard is limited. For a longer, more comfortable shower, we recommend the nearby marina shower house.
The toilet
The Lost Key has a marine toilet system. Hold the flush button for a few seconds. The toilet is emptied weekly. Please use as little toilet paper as possible and, if you can, use the marina restrooms for the large business.
It may feel like a little apartment. But remember, you’re still living on the water.
